Ride Log 070412
Two goal rides this week. First, the farmers market (see Ride Log 070112) then on the 4th, the Larry Scott Trail. I can’t wait to return for a longer ride. You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful 4th of July. Clear blue skies, a warm sun, a cool breeze, calm seas. We entertained the thought of taking out the boat, but we slept in and it would have taken too long to get out the door. I suggested riding the trail and we loaded up the bikes in the van (we don’t have a rack set up yet for my step-through; Josh is working on it) and drove to town.
We have been living up here for about eight years and this was only our second time on the trail. The first time was on foot less than a year ago. It starts at the boat yard and travels along the water by a hill covered in poppies and wild peas, goes past the mill, then along the highway through a tree arbored path, and to… well, unfortunately, we haven’t made it that far. Both times, Ike has pooped out on us so we turned around sooner than we hoped to.
We stopped at the high school’s fundraising stand bought some fireworks then went home for a low-key picnic in the backyard: barbecue burgers, kale salad, corn on the cob, & homemade vanilla ice cream with local organic strawberries. Some neighbor kids came by and joined us for the pyrotechnics. There were big grins and shouts of glee and I kept thinking what a perfect summer night.
